Withdrawal From Classes
Partial Withdrawal from Classes
Partially dropping/withdrawing from a class or classes can negatively affect your eligibility to keep the a portion or all of the funds awarded and/or disbursed to a student.
Complete Withdrawal from Classes
Completely withdrawing from ALL classes can impact the financial aid funds disbursed to a student. Students can officially withdraw from classes through Pipeline or unofficially by ceasing to attend. Withdrawing (officially or unofficially) could result in a student having to repay all or a portion of the financial aid awards back to Wayne State University. Students are encouraged to meet with their professors, academic advisor's, utilize the tutorial services available, and speak with the financial aid staff before withdrawing from WSU.
The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) strongly encourages you to discuss with a Financial Aid Administrator the effect withdrawing from all classes will have on your financial aid before making the decision to withdraw.
After officially withdrawing from all classes, you must immediately notify OSFA of your enrollment status change.
If you officially or unofficially withdraw from WSU prior to completing 60% of the semester, the aid you received will be returned in the following order:
- Federal Stafford Unsubsidized Loan
- Federal Stafford Subsidized Loan
- Federal Perkins Loan
- Federal PLUS Loan
- Federal PELL Grant
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
- Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
- Science and Mathematics to Retain Talent Grant (SMART)
- Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH)
