Financial Aid Eligibility Requirements
To receive federal, state or institutional funds administered by Wayne State University's Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA), a student must:
- Have a high school diploma, GED, or high school education in a home school setting
- Be enrolled as a regular student working toward a degree or certificate in an eligible program of study. Guest students are not eligible to receive financial aid funds
- Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
- Male students must be registered with Selective Service, if required
- Certify that you will use federal student aid for educational purposes (on the FAFSA)
- Be enrolled at least half-time.
- Have a valid social security number
- Make satisfactory academic progress as a student attending Wayne State University
- Establish and maintain eligibility for the programs for which aid is received
- Not have been convicted of a drug offense
- Certify that you are not in default on a federal student loan and that you do not owe money on a federal student grant.
A regular student is enrolled or accepted for enrollment at the University for the purpose of obtaining a degree or certificate. An eligible program leads to a degree or a certificate. There are two exceptions to the “eligible program” requirement: (1) prerequisite course work and (2) teacher certification. Students who are completing prerequisite coursework or teacher certification are enrolled at the post-bachelor’s level. See our Post-Bachelor's Web page for more information.
